It is my pleasure to lead the transformation of Millennial Tech. Middle School (MTM) where we serve students in the SDUSD Lincoln Cluster.  San Diego is our home but the 4 acre MTM Earth Lab and surrounding community is our extended classroom when it comes to learning at MTM.

The MTM Team is in the process of changing the vision of the middle school experience by providing a unique STEAM academy that focuses learning in an outdoor open-air space that will allow students to become change agents and work with real world problems both locally and globally.  Our school design started with extensive research by listening to the families, students and staff to gain extraordinary insight into the hopes and aspirations of the local students and their academic needs.  What we heard most was that students want to learn through real-world, collaborative projects that make an impact.  This feedback has allowed MTM to shift the classroom experience to community based learning projects focused on civics and helping their community.   Nurtured by makers and designers, entrepreneurs and artists, MTM students will acquire the creative confidence they need to navigate the knowledge economy with ease and inspiration. As part of the MTM STEAM academy, classes are conducted in cross-curricular studios and workshops that blend inquiry, research, critical thinking, communication, and creativity. Students explore a wide variety of activities and have the opportunity to dive deeper as they progress to 7th and 8th grade at MTM.

Today,  MTM is partnering with UCSD and Groundwork SanDiego to provide rigorous learning experiences that connect students with people, organizations, and resources across the community.  In our backyard EarthLab, we operate a camp-like school environment both during the school day and after school.  The EarthLab Climate Action Park is a four acre space where students and community members gather to celebrate each other, learn about climate- science, and generate solutions to improve our environment.   In the next three years, MTM will be building a state of the art STEAM building,  bridging the school campus to the EarthLab along with new classrooms and play spaces.

If you would like to know more about our school and programs, take a tour with us!  We will be providing personal tours every Thursday from 9:00-10:00.    Click here  to learn more about the EarthLab master plan and the design for the MTM campus.
