You’re the Oldest

By Noah

On a cold-ish sunny day, I was sitting at the bus stop. I realized that the bus was about to arrive, but not my twin sister. She wasn´t coming with me, and she hadn’t shown up. So I called her and said, “Come to the bus stop!”

“No,” replied Ren (that’s my sister).  “I already told Dad we were going to ASP (After school program).”

I responded with a bit of an annoyed tone to be honest.

“Just come to the friggin’ bus stop. I´m not missing my bus because of you again.”

I hung up super grumpy.  Angrily, I punched in words, texting my dad.

¨It´s not my fault if I come home alone today.”

I hit send. Poof.

A few minutes later, he texted the GC that he had me and my sister and responded in the group chat angrily

(I don’t remember anything he said but one snip or two)

I looked over at the messages and all I saw was, “You´re the oldest.”

That made me pissed off, you know, but I didn’t reply to it.

A bit later, while I was still on the bus, I was scared how angry my dad would be. I started crying, tears coming out of me like a flowing river. Wesley, my friend, who was also sitting next to me, noticed and tried comforting me.

He said, “It’s okay.”

Crescent too, another friend on the bus, noticed as well. She tried to calm me down. Most of it helped, but I was still freaking out.

When the bus got to my stop, I hugged Wesly and cried into his shoulder. We said our goodbyes and my friends told me good luck. I got off the bus and wiped my tears away.

Then, I ran home (I looked both ways ofcourse).

When I opened the door, my dad just looked at me but didn’t say anything. He just went right back to his game. I took off my shoes, took off my backpack and went to my room.

That was a strange day. I learned mostly that my dad is okay with me leaving my sister at school, even if I am the oldest, and she is the youngest.

But only if I ask first.
