HOT OFF THE PRESS
HOWL PUBLISHING ยท VOL. 2 ยท EST. 2025
THE HOWL 2.0
Our students run the presses now.
Howl Publishing is MTM’s student-run imprint. Students write, draw, compose, film, and design. Student editors decide what’s ready. And the work goes out to real readers: on the blog, in zines, and in print on actual bookstore shelves.
OUR MISSION
The goal of the Howl Publishing Project 2.0 is to cultivate student creativity through technology and writing, and provide outlets to share and publish amazing student work beyond the classroom.
❝ Why share our work with our community, and what changes when we do?
HOW IT WORKS
From backpack to bookshelf
Every submission, whether it’s a poem, a comic, a song, a game, or a film, travels the same road. Students drive every stage. Two teacher executive editors hold the final gate.
1๐ฌ
SUBMIT
One always-open form right here on the site. Paper submission boxes in the media center. Themed contests announced on the morning show.
2๐
TRIAGE
The Howl Publishing Club reads every entry, scores it on a four-line rubric, and suggests where it belongs.
3๐จ
PRODUCE
Editing passes, InDesign layouts, cover art, video edits. Real production briefs handled by our media classes.
4๐จ๏ธ
PUBLISH
Executive editors give the final read and press the button. Every submitter hears back, every time.
5๐ฃ
SHOWCASE
Friday morning show readings, the library magazine stand, monthly exhibitions, and launch nights out in the community.
MTM LIVE ยท FRIDAYS
Every Friday
Our Friday morning show, produced with ASB, is the megaphone. It announces themed calls, runs school-wide polls, and reads the best of the blog to the entire school.
๐บ
ANNOUNCE
A themed contest goes out live on the show.
โ๏ธ
CREATE
Students, staff, and family make things all week.
๐ฌ
SUBMIT
The form fills up. The editors get to work.
๐
FEATURE
Winners get read on air. The best feed the next zine.
WHERE WORK CAN GO
Four ways to get published. One is legendary.
Everything published lands on the blog first. From there, the strongest work climbs.
COMMON
๐๏ธ Blog
The home base. Writing, art, music, video, and games from the whole school. Weekly. Everyone starts here.
RARE
โ๏ธ Zines
Very good work that wants to be held in your hands. Printed runs, shown at Zine Fest and the Comic-Con Museum. Quarterly.
EPIC
๐ Anthology
The school’s best shelf. A real book, printed to professional specs, launched at Barnes & Noble. Once a year.
LEGENDARY
๐บ Howl Published
Your own standalone title under our imprint. One or two a year. Earn it.
Not ready yet? Work that needs another pass goes back with a sentence of real editor feedback and an open invitation to revise and resubmit. Every single submission gets a response. That’s what makes it a publishing house and not a suggestion box.

YEAR ONE ALREADY SHIPPED
Year one, we put a real book on Amazon.
Last year, Howl 1.0 took student writing and art from classroom folders to a 150-page anthology you can buy right now. Over 30 students and staff members became published contributors. This fall, Barnes & Noble hosts our authors night to celebrate them and kick off year two.

๐จ Submit cool work
Your students made something incredible? Submit it through the same form, or drop it in a paper box with a sticky note. Staff creative work is welcome too. Two staff members published in the 1.0 anthology.
๐ฅ Request a film crew
Something fun happening in your room this week? Request a student news crew. Badged Howl Press journalists capture a few minutes of footage and maybe an interview, and the school sees the amazing learning happening in your class.
NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS
Your byline starts here.
Stories, poems, drawings, comics, photos, songs, games, films, websites. Students, staff, and family too: parents and relatives can submit through their student’s district account. If it was made by the MTM community, our editors want to see it.
